Phase one begins at a highly visible point where several neighborhoods connect, Westfield Boulevard and North Meridian Street.

Combining the old with the ideal, the canal bridge will feature pedestrian-friendly seating and overlook areas with decorative, historic lampposts at each end. These visual themes will prominently remind southbound passers-by that they are entering a historic community.
Alice Carter Park Click to see plan.
Just south of the canal bridge, a segmented median with brick crosswalks will distinctively mark the northern edge of Alice Carter Park. The park will be transformed into an easily accessible tree-lined recreation area.

Crosswalk on Westfield Blvd. Click to see plan.
A brick crosswalk will connect the Canal Trail to Alice Carter Park and nearby homes. A planted median will narrow the vehicle lanes, calming traffic and allowing pedestrians and bikers to safely access the canal and park.

Business node at Illinois and 39th St. Click to see plan.
To encourage urban lifestyles, ordinary intersections will be converted into park-like settings for pedestrians, bikers and drivers. Nostalgic lampposts, street signs, brick crosswalks and plantings will celebrate the area’s history.
